Richard Stone is a British painter, specializing in portraits. In 1973, at the age of 22, he became the youngest commissioned royal portrait painter in almost 200 years.[1] He has completed commissioned portraits of H.M. Queen Elizabeth II, and Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother, and is completing portraits of H.R.H. Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, H.R.H. Charles, Prince of Wales, and H.R.H. Prince Andrew, Duke of York.[1] He also painted the official Downing Street portrait of Margaret Thatcher, who upon inspecting his work, requested that he add her handbag to the portrait.[2] His portraits hang at Buckingham Palace, the National Portrait Gallery (London), and the National Portrait Gallery (Australia).[1]
